Gary Basrai, Foundation Board Member

Dr. Gary Basrai, Pharm D was born in Punjab, India and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. He attended the University of Pacific and graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in 1977. In 1979, he was fortunate enough to purchase his first pharmacy in Fremont. His career in pharmacy spanned over 40 years where he expanded his ownership of independent pharmacies from Salinas, CA to Portland, Oregon with 4 locations in the Fremont/Newark areas and 2 in Gilroy.

He was a staunch advocate of the role of pharmacists in patient care. He was one of the first pharmacists to offer immunizations at the pharmacy. In addition, he offered innovative services in Compounding, Long Term Care and Durable Medical Equipment. Gary and his wife Jean raised 3 children in Fremont, all of whom are working in the family business. He has 5 grandchildren that he dotes on. Gary is now semi-retired and enjoys his time playing golf.

Fun fact: Gary is a farming pharmacist who grows crops of almonds, cherries, and walnuts.
