Fueling Health: BACH's Commitment to National Nutrition Month

March signifies National Nutrition Month, a dedicated time to highlight the significance of informed dietary decisions and embracing healthy lifestyle practices. It serves as a critical moment to raise awareness about nutrition's crucial role in overall well-being. Bay Area Community Health (BACH) eagerly supports this cause by providing resources and organizing events to educate both employees and customers on the importance of healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices.

Aligned with National Nutrition Month, BACH's wellness team will conduct a Healthy Road tabling event on March 23rd, from 10am to 12pm at our Mowry clinic located at 1860 Mowry Ave Suite 400 on the fourth floor. The event will be focusing on raising awareness about diabetes and healthy eating habits.

The event will center on promoting healthy eating habits, lifestyle changes, A1C tests, and will feature an interactive workshop led by a registered dietitian and nurse, both serving as Diabetes educators. BACH Nutrition Service Coordinator and Registered Dietician Myla Ocampo-Wong, emphasizes that this event is part of their ongoing efforts to educate individuals on healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices.

She emphasizes that prioritizing nutrition and wellness can yield long-term benefits, such as a reduced risk of chronic diseases and an improved quality of life. Myla compares following a nutritious diet to fueling the body and brain with the right nutrients for optimal function. Additionally, she emphasizes the importance of making informed food choices and adopting healthy eating and physical activity habits.

Myla encourages practicing mindful eating by reducing screen time during meals and focusing on the food being consumed, which promotes healthier choices and prevents mindless overeating. Regarding eating plans, she notes that individuals often find it easier to commit to non-restrictive eating plans for the long term. She emphasizes that everyone's eating patterns differ, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to nourishing our bodies. Myla also stresses the importance of meal planning to adhere to budgets and maintain nutrition goals.
