Bay Area Community Health Awarded Opioid Settlement Grant to Expand Substance Use Disorder Services
Bay Area Community Health (BACH) is honored to be a recipient of the latest round of Opioid Settlement Innovative Mini-Grant funding administered by Three Valleys Community Foundation (3VCF) in partnership with the Alameda County Behavioral Health Department (ACBHD). We are so fortunate to be part of this critical investment, which will help advance innovative, community-based solutions to address the opioid crisis across Alameda County.
This funding arrives at a pivotal moment. According to recent data, opioid-related deaths in Alameda County surged 65% in 2023 alone, with fentanyl driving an alarming increase in overdose fatalities among vulnerable populations, including the unhoused and recently incarcerated individuals. The additional grant support will allow us to deliver integrated substance use disorder treatment and mental health services directly to encampments and other high-need areas in Fremont, Hayward, Newark, and Union City.
Kelly Bowers, President of 3VCF, emphasized the importance of this effort:
“Together, we are doubling down on our investment in community-based organizations that are delivering creative, compassionate, and highly effective solutions in the fight against the opioid crisis. Our shared commitment to ensuring access to prevention and treatment options for those affected by opioid addiction is paramount in making a meaningful difference in the lives of so many individuals and families throughout Alameda County.”
“This grant will make it possible to expand our outreach teams and provide life-saving care where it’s needed most.”
Veronika Rodriguez, BACH SUD/MAT Manger.
We extend our deepest appreciation to the Alameda County Behavioral Health Department for their vision and leadership, and to 3VCF for their trusted stewardship of these critical funds. Together, we are building healthier, safer communities and helping individuals find pathways to recovery.
